When I decided to start this blog, I was very anxious because I know I have to get out of my comfort zone: First is posting for photos; Second is keeping an open mind. I like shopping a lot but there are certain styles I would have never imagined myself trying them on. Believe it or not, I just purchased my very first midi skirt not too long ago. I don’t wear skirts a lot; even I do I mostly wear my knee-length pencil skirts because of work. I always thought I am too short to carry midi skirts. Until I found this midi, which I wore for this post, everything changed. Ever since that day I am looking forward to wearing my midi skirt whenever I can.

Midi skirts have been very popular for the past while. If you are tired of your mini skirts and maxi skirts, then a midi can be a happy medium. Depends on the cut of the skirt, a midi usually hits right below the knee or a little longer on the mid-calf. I am petite so most midi skirts are longer on me. It can be a little harder to pull a midi skirt off if the style is not right. That’s why it is very important to find the right one for yourself so you can look trendy all the time. It’s true that midi skirts tend to draw more attention to the calf, which is the thickest part of the legs. So when trying on midi, pay attention on your height as well as the shape of your legs. When it comes to midi skirts, you have choices from fitted ones to flared ones. I personally like the more fitted midi because it is snug around the hips and thighs, which creates a more sleek look and doesn’t make me look even shorter or stumpy.

If you are looking for a new midi skirt, think about getting a whole new outfit to give yourself a new look. Depends on your midi is more snug fitted or more A-lined/umbrella shaped, you can get many different looks with just a simple midi. Midi looks great with just a t-shirt; it’s simple and casual but chic and cute. With Spring is around the corner, midi skirts would go great with chopped tops/tees or tight tank tops. Use your midi to help you get the perfect outfits for work or weekend. If your midi skirt is more flared/flowy, pair it with a button down or a chambray shirt tucked in would give a glam look. If your midi skirt is more fitted, go with a light sweater would help you balance the more dressy look of the skirt. And of course it would never hurt to wear your skirt with a pair of heels since it’s always nice to add extra length in your legs to make your midi look even better!

A white t-shirt is always a staple piece in my closet. I like the clean, minimal look a white tee gives. The only thing is I am pretty clumsy so I have to be extra careful whenever I have my white shirts on. Some people might think a white tee is boring since it is so plain; but its plainness totally allows you to have fun with the rest of your wardrobe. I know most people like to wear black and grey in winter; but I like to wear my white tees all year around. I love that I can use my white t-shirts almost anytime I want. I can use it as a workout top, a layer piece, or as is.

White t-shirts are so simple yet extremely versatile. You can pair any colours with a white tee; and you can always use your white tee to help the rest of your outfit stands out. Because of the simplicity of the t-shirt, you can pair it with something in brighter colour or busier prints to create a pop. Like I said you can wear white tee all season and all year around. In spring and summer, pair your white t-shirt with jean shorts for a chic summer look; with floral-print skirt for a feminine but fun look; with leather shorts for a elegant yet edgy look; with overall for a casual trendy look. In fall and winter, you can layer your white tee with many other things: jean jacket, leather jacket, blazer, chunky knit scarf, cardigan, fur vest etc. But no matter what season it is, white t-shirts and jeans are perfect match. To add more details to your outfit, you can always tuck you tee in your jeans and put on a belt to help elevate the simple look. I usually wear my white tee and denim with a pair of bright colour heels so I can get a more fun classy look!

A white t-shirt purchase is a no-brainer because you need to have a white tees all year around. And it is not rocket science when it comes to choosing a white t-shirt. Almost every boutique out there carries white t-shirts; so you have lots of options to choose from. Firstly you need to know what neckline you want: V-neck, crew neck, boat neck, scoop neck and lots more. Neckline would affect the look of a t-shift. I personally like V-neck the most because it’s a little sexier. Secondly you need to decide what kind of fit you are looking for: more fitted or more relaxed. Thirdly you have to decide what kind of fabric you want: cotton, jersey, rayon, and many others. Some will get wrinkles easier than others; and some will maintain its shape after wash/wear than others. A simple white tee has lots of potentials in terms of outfit versatility. You can get lots of amazing outfits using a simple, plain white t-shirt. Next time try different things with your white tees and you will be surprise how many different looks you can get!

Couple days ago I had a hard time choosing what I should wear; and I was just sitting there didn’t know what to do until I suddenly spotted my blazers. I haven’t been wearing any of my blazers since winter is here. It has been warmer for the past couple days and I think it is blazer time for me again! During Spring and Fall, blazers are always my go-to pieces since they are perfect for being worn as light jackets. I always have a soft spot for blazers even though I already have a couple ones. I am still keeping my eyes out and looking for more blazers to add to my closet.

Blazers are definitely staple pieces in every girl’s closet. If you are looking for something that can be good for both business and non-business, you cannot go wrong with blazers. Purchasing a blazer is not hard, you just have to narrow down your search by the following things: the number of buttons, the length of the blazer, the material, and the type of breasts. In terms of buttons, it could be from one-button to four or more buttons. I usually find that one-button and two button blazers are more flattering because of the way of the buttons sits. The length of the blazers is very important to me because where a blazer falls on a body will totally affect the look of the outfit. There is difference in length from chopped to long; but I usually go for waist-length and hip-length. Waist-length blazers are more flattering on the waist; and I also find that they go very well with skirts since they are not too long and end up covering most part of the skirts. Hip-length blazers are like boyfriend blazers; they have the tradition length which can easily pair with anything.

Then you have to determine what material you want since different fabric will affect the quality and look of a blazer. There are wool, satin, silk, linen, cotton, velvet and a lot more. Fabric can also affect what seasons would be best for you to wear the blazer. For instance, cotton and linen are more breathable so blazers with these materials are better for summer. Also keep in mind some fabrics need more maintenance than others such as linen wrinkles very easily. Another thing you need to choose is the breasts of your blazer. In general single-breasted blazers are more common and flattering.

Depends on your personality and style, you can pick any colour you prefer since blazers come in any colours you can imagine. Certain colours like black, grey, navy are more versatile and are good for any occasions from business to casual settings. Obviously blazers are great for work or any professional gatherings; however you can pair your blazers pretty much with anything besides button-down shirts and trousers. Blazers and jeans always look fantastic together. They balance each other out very well with the pair of jeans makes the blazer looks less formal while the blazer makes the jeans look more dressy. Next time you look for a light jacket, you definitely should go for a blazer. A blazer can always elevate the whole look and make your outfit more chic and sophisticated effortlessly!

Winter in Vancouver could be cold but is usually mild compared to many other places. There are days I don’t need my thick wool coat because it’s not too cold that I can get away without wearing one. Of course I would still need something to keep me warm (after all it’s still winter); that’s when my ponchos/wraps come in handy! I never really paid attention to ponchos/wraps until I came across one online and decided to purchase it two years ago. And that camel poncho changed my life; I have been slowly building up my collection ever since.

I know ponchos/wraps are made of a whole lot of fabric, which is a big rectangular or square shaped piece of cloth. And some people are skeptical about these garments because they often look very casual or seem to be hard to pull off. Choosing a poncho/wrap is actually not difficult at all; you just need to know what style you are looking for and what will flatter your body shape. There is a slightly different between poncho and wrap. Poncho is with an opening in the centre for the head; meanwhile wrap is with an open front. Either for poncho or wrap, you need to know what style you are going for: more simple, more boho, more chic, or more retro. Once you start your search, you may be surprised how many different styles there are. Some have simple but elegant line which are perfect for more formal, professional look; some are chunky knits with fringe which will give a more bohemian look. Especially with ponchos, they also come in many different necklines: turtleneck, crew-neck, V-neck etc. so you need to think about which styles would work best for your body shape. Also think about the length because it is very important to not have your ponchos/wraps too long if you are more petite; otherwise you will look like you are being “swallowed” by the poncho/wrap.

Just like every other wardrobe piece, you need to look at the whole outfit and make sure all pieces go well together. Because of all the material and loose fit, you want to wear something more slim-fitting underneath to avoid looking too “poofy”. Ponchos/wraps go well with skinny jeans, pencil skirts, leggings, or any slim-fitting pants. To help elongate your leg line, pair them with heels ankle boots, or OTK boots. Since there are so many choices on colours or patterns, I sometimes find it hard to make a decision. However I always seem to go for a solid, neutral colour despite there are many nice prints like plaids or Aztec because I want them to easily go with other items. I hope you have one already in your closet; if not I am sure you will find your perfect one soon!

Sneakers are not something I would have imagined myself talking about before I started this blog. If you have been following my blog, you must know how much I love my heels. Not like I am against sneakers/flats but I always go for heels first if I have a choice. Starting to wear sneakers again is a very recent thing. I used to wear sneakers everyday when I was in high school because any shoes with heels were not allowed to be part of my wardrobes. I remember that I spent lots of my high school years with all my dearly All-star Converse. Then my desire for sneakers started to fade away once I went to college because I finally got to wear whatever I want without needing my mom’s approval.

I know the first impression sneakers usually give is they are very casual and they are for workouts. It is true; however they have come a long way and have become part of the fashion trends. Because of the simplicity of sneakers, they can make your wardrobes into all different kinds of look – from sporty to sophisticated. Imagine on the weekend you have your day fully booked and you have couple places to go to, just one pair of sneakers can get you through the day without having to bring a second pair of shoes. You can do your morning workout in your sneakers with track pants and shirt; then you can change into skinny jeans and sweater to go with your sneakers for grocery shopping; and you can pair your sneakers with an A-line dress and leather jacket for coffee/lunch date with friends. They can be easily go with anything in your closet. Since sneakers look more casual and relaxed, you would try to not wear something too baggy or long at the bottom part to avoid looking “sloppy”.

The perfect thing about sneakers is that there is really no rules on how to wear your sneakers or what to wear them with. They are very low-maintenance yet cool and stylish fashion pieces. Another great thing is they are usually not overly expensive so you can really work them into your everyday outfit. Since I have started to wear my sneakers again, I have paired them a lot with my culottes to create the mix of trendy and classy look. I am looking forward to spending more time with my sneakers in Spring. I am sure you must have a pair or two in your closet, so take them out and make them into part of your stylish outfit!
