Denim jackets

I am glad to see the weather in Vancouver has been much nicer; and now I can wear my denim jacket with no shame!! I find it hard to dress lately since the temperature is inconsistent throughout the day in this transitional season. It is chilly in the morning and evening meanwhile it is very warm in the afternoon. I feel very silly carrying the bulky winter coats around. To get through all the unpredictable weather, denim jacket has been my go-to item besides my hoodies. Denim jackets can easily go with any outfits and that’s why they are perfect outerwear for any occasions.

Denim jackets are so versatile that you can wear them with anything from formal to informal. They are pretty much great for all seasons and they can blend in any looks you want. You don’t have to worry about whatever you wear not going to go well with the denim jacket. Jean jackets come in different shades: black, white, grey, classic blue and lots more. I personally like to stick with blue; but even classic blue also comes in light, medium, and dark wash. Lighter wash tends to look more casual which usually is more popular in Spring and Summer. Besides colour, the length and the waist of the jacket would totally affect the whole look. You have choices from chopped, classical, boyfriend fit etc.

No matter what colour and cut you go for, you can always get an awesome look out of it. Jean jacket looks good with flirty dress or skirt; and it can add a touch of causality to the feminine outfit. Denim jacket with maxi dress might sound like an odd combination, but they actually work very well together to create a ’70s vibe. Or you cannot go wrong with denim on denim – denim jacket with a chambray shift and a pair of ripped jeans. During Fall and Winter, you can also use your jean jacket underneath the winter coats as a layering piece.

I cannot wear anything denim at work but that doesn’t stop me from wearing my jacket with my work wardrobe off work. Buying a denim jacket is an investment so it is very important that you go for one you feel comfortable yet you love the fit/style. Jean jackets definitely are must-have in every girl’s closet. These light-weight year-around essentials will save you from the cold and still keep you stylish! Next time you wear you denim jacket, try something different: have the sleeves rolled up, have the collar popped, or have the jacket buttoned and belted it. You can get lots of looks with just one simple denim jacket.

Button down blouses

While I was doing my Spring cleaning and organizing my closet, I found lots of my button downs. When comes to choosing outfit, I always go through phrases. There’s time I would wear just whatever style I have in mind for weeks. At one point I used to wear button downs every day – on my work days and on my days off. One thing I absolutely love about button downs is I can use them in all different wardrobes. Button downs truly are you-can-wear-anywhere closet staples, which you can wear for the office, the night out, and the weekend errand-run.

The first impression button down usually gives is business formal and professional; and indeed it plays an very important and powerful role in business wardrobes. But button down also has lots of flexibility that you can wear in a more casual environment and it will still look perfect. No doubt when wearing button down tucked in with pencil skirt or trousers is a perfect office outfit; meanwhile the same button down can turn into something fun and chic. For the weekends, you can always wear your button down half-tucked with a pair of distressed jeans, which is simple but chic. Or you can wear button down underneath a jumpsuit or overall, which the formality of button down and the casualness of jumpsuit/overall will give a nice balance to each other. For dates, you can slip a slim and sexy black dress on top of the button down, which you will get an elegant look. Or you can pair the button down tucked out with leather leggings so you will look classy and trendy.

In general I like my button downs solid especially in white because I can easily layer with anything. If you want something more fun, button downs with prints would be good choice. During this transitional weather, I like to wear my button down under a sweater having the collar, bottom, and sleeves peaked out. That would give me a trendy “student” look and keep me warm at the same time. Sometimes I would go for a chopped sweater to get less the preppy look but more feminine style. You can always wear your button down open as a cardigan to make this staple piece as versatile as you want. If you are looking for a year-around essential, you won’t go wrong with a simple button down. Next time you wear you button down, play around with your outfits and you may surprise yourself how much you can get from it!

Hoodies

Happy first day of Spring everyone! Now Spring is finally here and I have almost finished organizing my closet. It is time for me to say farewell to all my winter wardrobes and go for something lighter during this transition time. Spring weather can be unpredictable – you could experience all type of weather in one day: warm, cold, dry, wet. I always love to wear my hoodies in Spring because they are perfect for layering! I remember that hoodies were my “school uniforms” in high school. Back then being fashionable didn’t cross my mind but I sure loved how comfortable I was in my hoodies. Of course as I am getting older, I see hoodies as staple fashion pieces in my closet.

Hoodies are every girl’s best friend because you can pretty much wear these pieces any day and any time no matter it’s in Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. When it comes to hoodie, the first thing comes to people’s mind is it is comfy cloth that is great for being lazy at home or going to the gym; but hoodie has its elegant and chic side too. To avoid your hoodies look overly casual or look too much like house clothing, don’t choose something too slouchy and oversized. When your hoodies are more fitted, they will give you a more stylish, trendy look. You can wear your hoodie as is or pair it with other fashion pieces. As I had mentioned, hoodies are perfect for layering. Hoodie pairs with leather or denim jacket, skinny jeans, and booties will give a casual and stylish look. Hoodie goes with a vest and black leather leggings with give a more edgy vibe. Hoodie wears with a varsity jacket, joggers, and sneakers will give a sporty yet trendy look. And hoodie pairs with a simple white button-down and an A-line skirt will give a cute and hip vibe. You can get all these looks with just one hoodie!

You can definitely still look put-together while you are in your hoodie. If you want a more dressy look from your hoodie, you can wear it with a lace dress, a pencil skirt, or a maxi skirt, plus a pair of heels and some accessories. Depends on your preference, you have the choice between pullover hoodie and hoodie with zipper front. I usually like the ones with the zipper front because I find it easier to put on and off. And to add more details to your outfit, you can go for hoodies with a pattern or graphic on. Hoodie is more than just warm, comfy, and cozy, it is a go-to item for Spring so you should use your hoodie to create a different outfit everyday!

Jumpsuits

It is very exciting that Spring is coming soon; and I have gradually started my Spring cleaning. I am kind of sad that soon I have to say goodbye to my boots and coats for a short while; but Spring fashion/colours are always so cheerful which make me happy! Every time I think about Spring wardrobe, the first thing always comes up in my mind is jumpsuit. Jumpsuits can play an important role in a girl’s closet. They may not be the most popular item to every girl; but they can give a diversity of looks when going with different pieces.

IMG_1279

Jumpsuits are one of those things that either someone absolutely loves them or someone is really not sure about them. I have to say finding the right jumpsuit takes lots of time and energy; and you really need tons of patience especially the process involves many try-ons. Since there are so many options, you need to narrow down what styles are the most flattering on you. First thing you have to decide what sleeve lengths you want: long sleeves, short sleeves, sleeveless, or tube top. Different sleeve lengths can affect the look of the jumpsuits. Long and short sleeves would be more work appropriate. Second thing you need to think of is the leg cut: wide leg, bell bottom, straight leg, slim leg, or jogger style. Flare legged jumpsuits with block heels will give a Bohemian vibe; slim legged jumpsuits with a pair of Spring booties will be a good combination if you are looking for a more classy but trendy look. To define your waist and get a nice silhouette, jumpsuits with a drawstring at the waist can definitely help adding a little extra sophistication and femininity to your outfit. And avoid to buy a jumpsuit that is too tight because it wouldn’t be flattering on plus jumpsuits are meant to drape around the body.

IMG_1245

I know many girls are skeptical of wearing a jumpsuit because they find it hard to remove the outfit quickly when needed (for instance when needed to go to washroom). If that’s the case, you can always go for styles that have zippers or buttons. When it comes to accessorize your jumpsuits, you should always go for something simple. Try not to overdo the accessories, a simple long gold necklace will help create a clean look but still fashionable. If you are thinking about a perfect outfit for weekend gathering or work dinner, you can get a glam and classy look with a black jumpsuit with a gold belt. Spring is around the corner and I am sure that you are planning to upgrade your wardrobe, adding a jumpsuit to your closet will not disappoint you. You can wear jumpsuits 7 days a week and use them for any events. And trust me you will get lots of compliments with a simple jumpsuit you wear!

Sweatpants

For those who know me well, you probably find it very weird seeing me wear sweatpants. I always have a pair of sweatpants in my closet but I never really wear it. I like to dress up; that’s why sweatpants are never my first choice. I don’t really work out so my sweatpants just has been sitting in the closet. Lately because of my hectic work schedule, I just want to feel completely relaxed and comfy on my days off. And being in my sweatpants really makes me enjoy my time outside of work.

IMG_1202

When comes to sweatpants, you might think of going to the gym or being lazy at home. But you can actually wear sweatpants as a trendy fashion piece. Sweatpants can pair with many things other than sweatshirts or hoodies. You can definitely dress your sweatpants up and wear them for dinner or date night. To get a more dressy look, you should go for a pair that is more fitted, which would still be slouchy but have a more sleek look. Sweatpants and crop tops are like soul mates; they look perfect together and they are meant to be worn together. The combination of sweatpants and crop tops can give you a more sporty chic look. If you want to get a classy look from you joggers, you can try having a nice silk blouse tucked in and finish the look with a pair of stilettos. And yes a pair of heels will elevate the look of your sweatpants. Besides heels, ankle boots or wedged sneakers will help giving a trendy vibe.

IMG_1188

Sweatpants can be good items for everyday use like coffee running errands/coffee.If you are looking for clothes for travelling, either road trip or flying trip, sweatpants are definitely must-have. They are so comfortable that you will not feel restricted even you have them on all day long. Unlike jeans or trousers, you can be very active and still be extremely comfortable under any circumstance. Don’t limit the use of your joggers. You can get a lot out of your sweatpants more than you had ever imagined. So don’t just let your sweatpants sitting in your closet!
